Meet the artist.
Zovina Maria is a Whimsical Fantasy Artist from England, specialising in highly detailed, hand-crafted Polymer Clay Paintings. Known for her depictions of Mushrooms, Fairy-Winged Animals, and her glistening use of light, Zovina creates original artworks that transport viewers to ethereal worlds of peace and magic. These pieces are one-of-a-kind, to be collected and cherished for a lifetime.
How it all started?
The Miniature Paintings were born out of pure experimentation. I have known I wanted to be an artist since I was a little child, and this ethereal essence has been with me since day one. After graduating art school I wondered what path I wanted to take to be a full time artist and make my dream a reality.
I stumbled across this medium, polymer clay, for the first time in 2021 and began to play and experiment. I started off creating shimmering floral jewellery, however, after a month or so I felt bored and unstimulated. I really missed creating things with narrative, as I was coming from a painting and children’s book illustrator background. So one day I thought “I wonder if I can paint but with the clay?” And so off I went, merging all my experience, knowledge and passions together. And thus, the very first Miniature Clay Painting was born. It was awful. But I tried again, and the second one I made was AMAZING! I was in awe at what I had just created, it felt like a gift from God. Something I could never have come up with on my own without all the moments of my life coming together and blooming into something entirely new.
The Meaning Behind the Art
I first fell in love with painting as a child because I would enter into a flow state of pure ineffable bliss. I would feel this same feeling when I was in nature and observing Creation with all its details and patterns and joyful spirit.
The natural world has always fascinated me and I have found myself depicting it time and time again. The animals, nature, oceans, mountains, flowers… They are simply awe inspiring! This plus this innate fascination with fantasy, fairytales and magic.
I bring all of these elements together and express them through this unique medium of Miniature Polymer Clay Painting.
I love that they lend themselves to both wearable art in the form of jewellery, and miniature gallery walls you can create in your own home!
